MEDIA. Wow. It's a... thing. It's definitely a thing. Looking back on my interactions with social media, I suppose I never really put too much thought into joining or not joining the community. Perhaps it's because I'm in this sort of transitional generation where we've been growing with technology rather than trying to learn it when we are already grown. Media is important to me. I don't need it to survive, but I do need to understand it to survive. When I was a freshman in high school, my math teacher told our class "If you don't understand technology, you will get manipulated by technology" which I guess stuck with me.
I never put a second thought into joining FaceBook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, or Wix. It came naturally to me that I needed to understand how to use technology so someone much smarter and cunning couldn't use it against me. (Which is probably why I need to explain to my mom that, no, she didn't win a free iPad over email, she shouldn't click that link, and she definitely shouldn't give them her personal information. It was sneaky and confusing to her, but was completely obvious to me.)
I originally made this site over the summer to document my daily thoughts through my phone. I had no intention of pursuing followers (why would anyone care?) but I think I've changed my mind. I'm going to allow my personal thoughts and beliefs and rants live on the same platform as my academic blog. Why? Because my life is already a shabby chic shit-show, and showing others that I'm a real person is just fine by me.

Pictured is an excited Freshman Me, thinking I would never get tired of the Portland rain. Hah.
